Program Curriculum

Module 1

Understanding the Cassava Value Chain

This module provides an analytical framework of economic activities within the upstream, midstream, and downstream segments of the cassava value chain. Participants will gain clarity on the structures and network of operations in the cassava industry both locally and globally.

Module 2

Agronomic Practices for Cassava Production

Understanding agronomic procedures is critical to successful cassava production. This module covers appropriate soil and agro climatic parameters, site selection, and insights into various cassava varieties and their yield potentials.

Module 3

Farm Management and Quality Assurance

This module emphasizes the importance of implementing a comprehensive farm audit, management, and quality assurance system. Topics include pre-planting, planting, post-planting operations, pest and disease control protocols, fertilizer application, weed control, and biosecurity measures.

Module 4

Harvest and Post-Harvest Operations

Focusing on the critical stages of harvesting and post-harvest handling, this module addresses best practices for harvesting, sorting, grading, and transporting cassava tubers. Participants will learn techniques to minimize post-harvest losses and maintain tuber quality during transportation.

Module 5

Cassava Processing and Value Addition
